Each Break painting begins with the same reduced element — a line. Its direction, proportion and position can shift the entire balance of the composition, creating tension, movement or stillness.

Break began with one painting and one question. Since then, the series has continued to evolve — each work exploring a new possibility for the line within an increasingly reduced space.
Sometimes, a single line is enough to change the whole image.
Hello, I’m Veronika
I’m a contemporary artist originally from Russia, and Spain has been my home since 2010. I now live and work on the Mediterranean coast near Barcelona.
How I work
The apparent simplicity of my paintings is the result of a precise process. I can spend hours adjusting angles, distances and proportions — sometimes by millimetres — until the composition reaches the balance I’m looking for.
My Break series began with a very simple question:
Could I make a painting in which a line was the main subject, with almost nothing else around it?
That question led to Break 1. From there, I began exploring what else a line could do. Some compositions create more tension, others feel quieter; some are sharp and highly contrasted, while others are more restrained. Each new painting is another step in the same ongoing exploration.

I like seeing how the Break works change depending on the space around them. With so few elements, everything begins to matter: the scale of the painting, the empty space around it, the colour of the wall, the light, and the architecture of the interior.
